The BnF proposes to leave In the footsteps of Edith Piaf », thanks to an exhibition and a journey through the streets of the capital, to rediscover the story of an icon of Parisian life.
On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the most popular of French singers, the BnF is devoting a major exhibition to Édith Piaf, to be discovered until August 23, 2015. On the program: hundreds of documents – photographs, posters, memorabilia , but also sound recordings and film extracts – which evoke the incredible destiny of a street singer who became an international star.
If you have four hours ahead of you, do not hesitate to complete the experience by taking the “In the footsteps of Edith Piaf” route, made up of nine stages that will take you on a journey through the Paris of the Kid!
Your crossing will begin with Place Édith-Piaf where a statue bearing her likeness has paid homage to her since 2003. You will then pass by the Père-Lachaise Cemetery where the singer was buried in 1963, the Édith Piaf Museum located in the house that she occupied in 1933 while she was singing in the streets of Ménilmontant, the Moulin Rouge where she met Yves Montand, the Olympia where she was invited to sing in 1955…
At each stage, you will be given a clue to find the name of a song by La Môme and thus participate in the competition organized by the BnF in order to win a restaurant for 2 people, compilations of the singer or even catalogs of the exhibition…
Paris Select is seduced by this route which ends in beauty rue Leconte-de-Lisle, which housed the legendary love story of Edith Piaf and Marcel Cerdan. A must stop for romantics!
Note that the BnF also offers another major exhibition, this time dedicated to a king of France: “François Ier, Pouvoir et image”. The opportunity to discover how the legend of a very popular monarch was forged in his time.
