Orson Welles: the sacred monster of American cinema can be rediscovered at the Cinémathèque
Until August 2, 2015, the Cinémathèque is organizing a retrospective dedicated to Orson Welles, the filmmaker who turned Hollywood upside down… You are in Paris for a few days and you are in love with the 7th art. Paris Select advises you to take a few hours to go to the Cinémathèque, which is offering a retrospective on one of the greatest American filmmakers of the last century until August 2: Orson Welles. Made famous by his radio broadcasts and his productions at the Mercury Theatre, Orson Welles made a name for himself in Hollywood in 1941 with a now cult film, Citizen Kane, in which he was very critical of American democracy. The Cinémathèque pays homage to this sacred monster of American cinema through a series of screenings: Citizen Kane of course, but also La Splendeur des Ambersons, La Dame de Shangai, Mr. Arkadin or La Soif du mal… We find in these works the baroque figures of the labyrinth, the mask and the scythe that have marked his unique journey.
