Last Wednesday, the city of Paris hosted the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paralympic Games.\nHere’s a recap of the event, which was intended to be grand and inclusive, in celebration of Paralympic athletes from around the world. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Th\u00e9o Curin kicks off the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games<\/h2>\n\n

The first star of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games is Th\u00e9o Curin<\/strong>.\nFollowing the example of Zinedine Zidane for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games<\/a>, Th\u00e9o Curin launched the Paralympic Games opening ceremony by driving through the streets of Parisin a cab decorated with Phryges<\/strong>.\nHe was accompanied by Charles-Antoine Kouakou<\/strong> (para athletics), N\u00e9lia Barbosa<\/strong> (para canoeing) and\u00c9lodie Lorandi<\/strong> (para swimming).\nAfter the opening ceremony, Th\u00e9o Curin made his way to the Place de la Concorde<\/strong> to officially launch the Games with a “Welcome to Paris!<\/em> <\/p>\n\n

One of the highlights of the opening night was the performance by Chris<\/strong>, formerly Christine and the Queens<\/strong>.\nThe French artist, known for her intense stage performances and inimitable style, gave new life to \u00c9dith Piaf’s iconic song, “Non, je ne regrette rien”.<\/em><\/strong> The artist concluded his performance with a rendition of “Born to be Alive”,<\/em> a song that once again thrilled the crowd.\nUnder a magnificent fireworks display, the ceremony came to a climactic close, to the applause of the audience. <\/p>\n\n

The arrival of the French delegation and its flag bearers <\/h2>\n\n

At the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games<\/strong>, Alexis Hanquinquant and Nantenin Ke\u00efta had the honor of carrying the French flag.\nThe 2 athletes embody the values of sport and resilience.\nTheir election marks a first in their<\/strong> respective careers<\/strong>.\nAfter Tokyo 2020, where St\u00e9phane Houdet and Sandrine Martinet carried the flag together… It’s once again a mixed duo<\/strong> that has been chosen.\nThis underlines the importance of equality and collaboration within the French delegation. <\/p>\n\n

Lucky Love’s moving performance at the foot of the Concorde <\/h2>\n\n

At the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games<\/a>, Lucky Love delivered an unforgettable performance with an adaptation of his song “Masculinity”,<\/em> renamed “My Ability”<\/em> for the occasion .<\/em>\nDressed in a white suit reminiscent of Freddie Mercury’s iconic style<\/strong>, he performed the ballad outdoors on the Place de la Concorde. Born without his left arm<\/strong>, he grew up facing the challenges of his disability.\nFor him, the notion of “handicap” is subjective.\nHe prefers to see himself as a person living in a different body<\/strong>, rather than as a disabled person. <\/p>\n\n

5 athletes light the Paralympic cauldron <\/h2>\n\n

Alexis Hanquinquant<\/strong>, Nantenin Keita<\/strong>, Charles-Antoine Kouakou<\/strong>, \u00c9lodie Lorandi<\/strong> as well as Fabien Lamirault<\/strong> lit the Paralympic cauldron to launch the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.\nIn a procession to the Jardin des Tuileries<\/strong>, reminiscent of that of Teddy Riner and Marie-Jos\u00e9 P\u00e9rec at the Paris 2024 Olympics, these 5 athletes lit up the Parisian sky.
