Held every year at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Met Gala has become a must-attend event for the world’s biggest celebrities and fashion industry figures. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

This year’s theme for the Costume Institute’s exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, “Superfine Tailoring & Black Style”,<\/strong> honors black dandyism. The theme is taken from author Monica Miller’s essay Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity<\/em>. This will be the main theme of the Met Gala evening. It will reveal the perfection of tailoring<\/strong> and the culture and aesthetics of black style<\/strong>, two intertwined pillars of contemporary fashion. <\/p>\n\n

“Superfine Tailoring” refers to the art of creating bespoke silhouettes sculpted on the bodies of their wearers. An ode to the technical rigor and meticulous craftsmanship of designers. As for black style<\/strong>, it’s a tribute to the undeniable influence of Afro-descendant designers and figures in the evolution of fashion. From music to dance to social movements. Black culture has continually shaped fashion trends. <\/p>\n\n
