The Institut Universitaire Elie Wiesel, in collaboration with the Alliance Isra\u00e9lite Universelle (AIU), offers a series of courses on medieval Jewish thinkers. From November 5 to 26, 2024, David Lemler invites you to explore the transformation of Judaism under the influence of philosophy. These lectures will take place online. <\/p>\n\n

Discovering medieval Jewish philosophy<\/h2>\n\n

During these four sessions, David Lemler will discuss how influential Jewish thinkers living in the medieval Muslim world helped Jewish tradition evolve. Through these structured philosophical courses, he will show how some of these authors redefined Judaism as a religion based on monotheism and an intellectual ideal<\/em>. Lemler will also analyze their efforts to integrate new ideas into traditional texts and turn them into concepts rooted in Jewish culture. In this way, the course cycle will provide an understanding of how this approach shaped Judaism as it is perceived today. <\/p>\n\n

The Elie Wiesel Institute: a place of knowledge and remembrance<\/h2>\n\n

Founded in 2005 under the aegis of Elie Wiesel, the Institut Elie Wiesel is a pioneering institution in the teaching of Jewish civilization. With its transdisciplinary approach, it welcomes students and the general public alike. The institute, recognized by the Acad\u00e9mie de Paris, guarantees free and innovative teaching on Jewish history and culture. It covers all fields of Hebraic knowledge. <\/p>\n\n

In partnership with the AIU, the Elie Wiesel Institute has created theEuropean Digital University of Jewish Studies (UNEEJ)<\/em>, a unique online platform for Jewish studies in Europe. UNEEJ offers interactive digital courses open to all. They aim to widen access to rigorous training in the sciences of Judaism. This cycle of lectures by David Lemler is part of this approach to opening up and transmitting knowledge to a diverse audience. <\/p>\n\n

Lecturer at Sorbonne University, David Lemler is a recognized specialist in medieval Jewish philosophy. With solid academic experience acquired at the University of Strasbourg and the \u00c9cole Pratique des Hautes \u00c9tudes, he shares here his research and his passion for Jewish thought. <\/p>\n\n
