At issue? Zara&#8217;s attempt to register the &#8220;Zacaff\u00e8&#8221; trademark for its future coffee bars in some of its stores.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Opposition validated by the European Union<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>In early January, <strong>Zicaff\u00e8 applied to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO)<\/strong> to block registration of the name &#8220;Zacaff\u00e8&#8221;, arguing that it could <strong>create confusion among consumers<\/strong> and harm its business. The EUIPO accepted this request, preventing <strong>Zara from pursuing its project under this name<\/strong> for the time being. <\/p>\n\n<p>The conflict arose after the presentation <strong>last November<\/strong> of the first <strong>Zacaff\u00e8<\/strong> coffee corner <strong>in the Zara Man store in Madrid<\/strong>. The Italian company, founded in <strong>1929<\/strong>, is concerned about the commercial consequences of such appropriation. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>A pending legal battle<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>The EUIPO has set a <strong>negotiation period until April 12<\/strong>, during which the two companies can attempt to reach an <strong>amicable agreement<\/strong>. If no compromise is reached, the procedure <strong>will enter the opposition phase<\/strong>, prolonging the conflict until <strong>June 12<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>If the situation remains unresolved after this date, the legal battle could drag <strong>on for several years<\/strong>, and potentially be brought before the <strong>General Court of the European Union (TGUE<\/strong> ) in the event of an appeal in cassation.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Zara faces further legal disputes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>This dispute with Zicaff\u00e8 is not the only one <strong>Zara<\/strong> is facing. The Spanish brand is also negotiating with <strong>Atari<\/strong>, the iconic video game company, following a complaint concerning <strong>the registration of a figurative trademark<\/strong>. In this case, the parties seem to favor an <strong>amicable settlement<\/strong>, with discussions postponed until <strong>mid-2026<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Growing giant despite obstacles<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Founded in <strong>1974<\/strong>, Zara is one of<strong>Inditex<\/strong>&#8216;s flagship brands, alongside <strong>Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Pull&amp;Bear, Oysho, Zara Home and Lefties<\/strong>. Despite these <strong>legal disputes<\/strong>, the group continues to prosper, with <strong>sales of \u20ac18.065 billion in the first half of 2024<\/strong>, recording <strong>growth of 7.2%<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>The future of the <strong>Zacaff\u00e8<\/strong> project remains uncertain, but <strong>Zara<\/strong> seems determined to pursue its expansion into the foodservice sector. It remains to be seen whether the brand will be able to keep its name, or whether it will have to rethink its ambitions under a different identity. <\/p>\n\n<p>Also read: <a
