A truce as sudden as it was fragile. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">An unexpected customs suspension between the United States and China<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After months of heightened tensions, <strong>China and the United States have suspended their punitive tariffs<\/strong> for 90 days. The agreement was announced in Geneva, following two days of negotiations. The decision is intended to <strong>defuse the escalating<\/strong> trade war launched by the <em>Donald Trump<\/em> administration.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This tax respite &#8211; effective <em>from May 14<\/em> &#8211; provides for a reduction in taxes on Chinese products imported into America to <strong>30%<\/strong>, while China reduces duties on American products to <strong>10%<\/strong>. Officially, the two powers intend to &#8220;balance their trade relations&#8221;. Unofficially, each is seeking to preserve its strategic markets.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">A breath of fresh air for luxury stock markets<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This diplomatic gesture was <strong>immediately welcomed by world markets<\/strong>. The <em>CAC 40<\/em> jumped <strong>1.46%<\/strong>, London <strong>0.67%<\/strong> and Hong Kong <strong>3%<\/strong>. But it was the <strong>luxury goods sector<\/strong> that recorded the most spectacular gains: LVMH +5.2%, Kering SA +5.7%, Herm\u00e8s +2.8%, L&#8217;Or\u00e9al +1.5%. Outside France, <em>Burberry<\/em> soared <strong>6.24%<\/strong>, <em>Richemont<\/em> +5%, <em>Moncler<\/em> +4.3%, <em>Hugo Boss<\/em> +2.83%.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This chain reaction can be explained by the fact that, since the introduction of the surtaxes, manufacturers such as <strong>Louis Vuitton<\/strong> and <strong>Herm\u00e8s<\/strong> had raised their prices in the United States, creating pressure on demand. With this truce, the sector is hoping for a <strong>slowdown in volatility<\/strong> and a <strong>partial recovery in consumption<\/strong>, particularly in China. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">A fleeting truce masking an unstable reality<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the suspension is reassuring in the short term, it <strong>resolves nothing of substance<\/strong>. Commercial relations between the two giants remain tense. And the 90-day truce can be interrupted at any time.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">A reprieve for luxury to watch closely<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luxury goods are breathing a sigh of relief, but remain on their guard.
