He liberated bodies, dressed Parisian nights, invented the modern silhouette… then disappeared from the collective memory. This summer, the Mus\u00e9e des Arts D\u00e9coratifs is devoting a retrospective to Paul Poiret, the legendary designer of the early 20th century, in an exhibition entitled “Paul Poiret – la mode est une f\u00eate”.<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

An eccentric visionary forgotten too soon<\/h2>\n\n

Born in Paris in 1879<\/em>, Paul Poiret<\/strong> was one of the first couturiers to see fashion as a total art form. In contrast to his rigid contemporaries, as early as 1903<\/strong> he designed corset-free garments with fluid, colorful lines, inspired by the Ballets Russes<\/strong>, thedreamed-of Orient<\/strong> and Fauvist art<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n
