Calling all fans of diving and cult cinema: the “Big Blue” watch is making a comeback. In 2025, Citizen is relaunching its iconic Promaster Aqualand, 40 years after its creation. This anniversary reissue doesn’t just pander to nostalgia – it combines contemporary technical features, a design faithful to the original and an almost reasonable price: \u20ac479. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

A legend born under pressure<\/h2>\n\n

In 1985<\/strong>, Citizen revolutionized diving watchmaking by launching the first watch equipped with an electronic depth gauge<\/strong>. Three years later, Jean Reno<\/strong>, alias Enzo Molinari in Luc Besson’s Le Grand Bleu<\/em>, wore it on his wrist. The Promaster Aqualand became a Mediterranean icon<\/strong>, associated with the sea, with surpassing oneself, and with a certain idea of freedom. <\/p>\n\n

In 2025, it returns as JP2008-06E<\/strong>, in a limited edition of 5,800 units<\/strong> (including 250 for France<\/strong>), and retains all the attributes that made it a legend.<\/p>\n\n

Vintage design, modern heart<\/h2>\n\n

43 mm<\/strong> stainless steel case, unidirectional bezel, screw-down crown at 4 o’clock<\/strong>, external depth gauge, yellow gold-plated details<\/strong>: the watch follows the 1985 aesthetic to the letter<\/strong>, with a more matt and contemporary touch. As for the movement, Citizen has opted for the C520 quartz<\/strong> caliber, combining analog and digital displays<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

It incorporates all the functions expected of a diving tool: 1\/100th chronograph<\/strong>, alarm, date, rapid ascent alert<\/strong>, and of course water resistance to 200 meters<\/strong>, in accordance with the ISO standard. Bonus: a bracelet made from BENEBiOL\u2122<\/strong>, a biosourced material developed by Mitsubishi Chemical. A discreet but well-considered innovation, in tune with today’s environmental issues. <\/p>\n\n
