From June 20<\/em> to August 17, 2025<\/em>, the Grand Palais welcomes “Tapisseries royales”: 16 monumental tapestries designed by Danish artists and woven by the Mobilier national, in an unprecedented exhibition in the heart of Paris.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

A Nordic-French dialogue between tradition and modernity<\/h2>\n\n

The project was born in 2020<\/em> at the initiative of the New Carlsberg Foundation<\/strong>, which commissioned sixteen works for the Royal Castle of Koldinghus, Denmark. Each piece is based on sketches by Danish artists – Kirstine Roepstorff, Bj\u00f8rn N\u00f8rgaard, Tal R<\/strong> and Alexander Tovborg<\/strong> – and was woven in France, at Les Gobelins<\/strong>, Beauvais<\/strong> and Aubusson<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

This is the first and only presentation of these pieces in France, proof of the wealth of ancestral know-how at the service of contemporary creation.<\/p>\n\n

Spread across Galerie 7<\/strong>, these tapestries captivate with their impressive size, vivid palettes and narrative power. They interact with the majestic architecture of the nave. They highlight basse-lice and haute-lice techniques, as well as the meticulous gestures of ancient workshops.liers anciens. <\/p>\n\n

The exhibition also reveals the various stages of production, from preparatory cartons to final weaving. It highlights the complexity of fine craftsmanship and the remarkable skills of our artisans. <\/p>\n\n

Why a Paris exhibition?<\/h2>\n\n

By choosing Paris, a world center of culture and haute couture, the project takes on a double meaning: a tribute to the French history of tapestry (Louis XIV, the Gobelins saga) and the promotion of a contemporary European artistic exchange.<\/p>\n\n

Paris thus becomes a platform for dialogue between national traditions and modern aesthetics, in a format accessible to the general public.<\/p>\n\n
