This June, Christie’s<\/a> will be showcasing an ensemble of rare coherence: the Collections du Ch\u00e2teau de Tournay. On June 17 and 18, in Paris, two separate sales, one devoted to the Decorative Arts, the other to La Biblioth\u00e8que, will reveal to the public a demanding vision of great French taste, brought together with discernment by a passionate collector. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Once the home of Voltaire<\/strong>, the Ch\u00e2teau de Tournay in the canton of Geneva has been restored to house these pieces in a setting worthy of their prestige. Furniture, objets d’art, paintings and precious books all come together here in a spirit of timeless elegance. <\/p>\n\n

Royal progenies and furniture masterpieces<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The sale, to be held at Christie’s on June 17, will be devoted to the Decorative Arts<\/strong>, and will bring together some 220 pieces acquired between the 1960s and 1990s. It celebrates the excellence of 18th-century master craftsmen<\/strong> and the refinement of royal manufactures<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

Major lots include a pair of Georges Jacob-stamped fauteuils \u00e0 la reine<\/strong>, delivered in 1786 for the Ch\u00e2teau de Fontainebleau, estimated at 300,000 to 500,000 euros. A Regency-period flat desk<\/strong> that belonged to James de Rothschild, and a Savonnerie screen comparable to a model in the Mus\u00e9e Nissim de Camondo<\/strong>, all bear witness to exceptional provenance. <\/p>\n\n

Tableware<\/strong> also features prominently, with several services from the Manufacture nationale de S\u00e8vres<\/strong>, including one commissioned by King Louis-Philippe I for the Ch\u00e2teau d’Eu.<\/p>\n\n

Mineral luxury and a dialogue between eras<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The collection is distinguished by the nobility of its materials: Egyptian and Swedish porphyry<\/strong>, rare marble and colored granite. A spectacular Obelisk clock<\/strong> illustrates the taste for Antiquity at the end of the 18th century. Neoclassical potpourris and a porphyry-veneered library table complete this ode to erudite luxury<\/strong>.A section of ancient, modern and contemporary paintings<\/strong> completes the ensemble: a Vue de Paris circa 1670, a Port d’Alger byAlbert Marquet<\/strong>, a Pr\u00e9 \u00e0 Saint-Briac by\u00c9mile Bernard<\/strong>, and a braided work by Fran\u00e7ois Rouan<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

A library bearing the arms of queens<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

On June 18, the sale dedicated to La Biblioth\u00e8que<\/strong> will unveil nearly 200 works from the 18th to the 20th century. Refined bindings, vintage morocco and the prestigious provenance of Marie-Antoinette<\/strong>, Madame de Pompadour<\/strong> and Marie-Louise<\/strong> make up a selection destined for the most demanding bibliophiles.Works by Voltaire, including the “Kehl” edition, rub shoulders with Montaigne, La Fontaine and Picasso. Modern book lovers will appreciate bindings signed by Paul Bonet, Pierre Legrain or Rose Adler, all preserved in remarkable condition. <\/p>\n\n
