“It gave me the confidence to choose something that truly felt like me, rather than following pre-set expectations.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Charlotte McCaughan-Hawes, meanwhile, chose a pale pink Simone Rocha dress adorned with orange floral embroidery, bought at a sale. Her intimate wedding left no room for traditional codes, including the big white dress. Her outfit perfectly reflected the relaxed spirit of the ceremony.<\/p>\n

Multicultural weddings and outfits that celebrate heritage<\/h2>\n

Multicultural weddings are increasingly common. For many brides, coloured outfits are a way to honour their own culture or that of their partner, beyond Western tradition. It is in this context that the coloured wedding dress<\/strong> takes on a powerful symbolic dimension.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Bennett chose a pink sari and then a bright yellow Queens of Archive dress for her wedding to Saurabh Sathyashankar in India. She admits she never really dreamed of a grand white wedding. Ana Coccioletti drew inspiration from Diana Ross in a voluminous red-orange dress, from Winona Ryder in a pastel-toned sequinned Chanel dress, and from Samantha in Bewitched<\/em> in a silver Paco Rabanne-style dress. She ultimately chose the final pink and red look from Molly Goddard’s spring-summer 2021 show.<\/p>\n

    Vow renewals: a playground for colour<\/h3>\n

    Many brides choose coloured outfits for their vow renewals. Morgane Richer La Fleche wore the Gillian dress from Molly Goddard’s autumn-winter 2020 collection, in peach, to renew her vows at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. She wanted something extravagant, in keeping with the pink Cadillac and Elvis impersonator at the ceremony.<\/p>\n

    This kind of occasion allows for complete freedom in choosing an outfit. A first wedding, by contrast, still carries greater pressure from traditional codes. Yet more and more brides are sidestepping those expectations with confidence.<\/p>\n

    Jess Murray points out that being able to wear her dress again is a big part of its appeal. She chose something that feels like an extension of her own style, rather than a piece reserved for a single occasion. As far as she’s concerned, every time she puts it on again, she’ll be reminded of the best day of her life.<\/p>\n
