This new heatwave is gradually taking hold, driven by a powerful meteorological mechanism, and it is set to weigh heavily on the daily lives of millions of people before any real relief<\/a> appears on the horizon.<\/p>\n

Until 15 August: a gruelling stretch ahead<\/h2>\n

According to the latest forecasts, the highest temperatures are expected to persist through Saturday 15 August<\/a><\/strong>. For several days, they will exceed seasonal norms by 5 to 10\u00b0C<\/strong> in the worst-affected areas. Highs will frequently range between 30 and 35\u00b0C, with peaks reaching 35 to 38\u00b0C, or even higher in the South.<\/p>\n

It is only from Sunday 16 August<\/strong> that a more marked drop appears likely, starting in the northern half of the country. In Paris<\/a>, some forecasting scenarios point to a return to around 26\u00b0C<\/strong>, a figure much closer to typical mid-August levels. In regions near the Mediterranean, however, the cool-down could arrive later.<\/p>\n

It is worth bearing in mind that the 16 August deadline is still far enough away for forecasts to shift. The heat peak is expected around 13 August<\/strong>, meaning several consecutive days of intense heat<\/a> before any let-up.<\/p>\n

How this heatwave will change everyday life<\/h2>\n

The practical consequences of this heat episode will be felt on several fronts. In major cities, heat stored by buildings and roads will make evenings noticeably oppressive. Nights are also likely to become difficult once the thermometer stays close to or above 20\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A powerful anticyclone has established itself over Western Europe, pushing away weather fronts and favouring several days of intense sunshine. This high-pressure block acts like a lid placed over part of the continent, preventing any cool air from entering.<\/p>\n

    At the same time, southerly winds are channelling warm air into France from the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa. The sun then heats the ground throughout the day, with no incoming cool air to correct the trend. It is this combined mechanism that explains why this heatwave can sweep across almost the entire country within just a few days.<\/p>\n

    A short-lived respite before this new episode<\/h2>\n

    This return of the heat follows a more bearable interlude in the middle of the week, which had only affected part of northern France. That respite proved very brief. From this weekend onwards, temperatures are climbing again and will continue to rise over the coming days, affecting a large part of France.<\/p>\n

    The latest trends paint a fairly clear picture for the days ahead. After an increasingly hot weekend, France is set to endure several gruelling days, with a peak expected around 13 August<\/strong>.
