Museums<\/a>, foundations and galleries are competing with ambitious programmes, from medieval dress to the most contemporary fashion photography. Here is how to make the most of this exceptional season.<\/p>\n

Designer retrospectives at the heart of Paris fashion exhibitions<\/h2>\n

The Mus\u00e9e Maillol sets the bar high with a retrospective entirely dedicated to Gianni Versace<\/strong>, on view until 31 October 2026<\/strong>. Flamboyant prints, baroque references and silhouettes that defined the 1980s and 1990s: the exhibition traces the journey of a couturier who profoundly transformed Italian and international fashion<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Fondation Azzedine Ala\u00efa<\/strong> offers an intimate look at the ties between the designer and the African continent, running until 4 January 2027<\/strong>. Around fifty silhouettes are placed in dialogue with previously unseen photographs<\/a> by Peter Beard, revealing the deep sources of inspiration behind Ala\u00efa’s work. It is a rare opportunity to approach his oeuvre from a personal and geographical angle that has rarely been explored.<\/p>\n

The ch\u00e2teau de Fontainebleau, meanwhile, is hosting a selection of stage costumes by Christian Lacroix<\/strong> until 2 November 2026<\/strong>, as part of the Festival de l’Histoire de l’Art. Fashion photography takes centre stage in the capital<\/h2>\n

Among the most anticipated Paris fashion exhibitions this season, two major photography retrospectives deserve special attention. The mus\u00e9e des Arts d\u00e9coratifs presents the first major French exhibition dedicated to Brazilian photographer Rafael Pavarotti<\/strong>, running from 23 September 2026 to 7 February 2027<\/strong>. More than 200 vivid photographs<\/strong> trace his career and show how he is reinventing the visual codes of fashion.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the Maison Europ\u00e9enne de la Photographie<\/strong> pays tribute to Irving Penn<\/strong> from 30 September 2026 to 17 January 2027<\/strong>. The Palais Galliera<\/strong> is presenting two complementary exhibitions. The first, “Un vestiaire \u00e0 soi”, on view from 26 September 2026 to 14 February 2027<\/strong>, brings together more than 350 works<\/strong> to tell the story of how certain nineteenth-century women appropriated the codes of male dress, turning clothing into a symbol of emancipation. The mus\u00e9e des Arts d\u00e9coratifs is also celebrating its 40th anniversary of its fashion department<\/strong> with “Look, 40 ans de mode au mus\u00e9e”, until 4 April 2027<\/strong>. Forty iconic silhouettes, accompanied by sketches, patterns and embroideries, trace four decades of creation. The same museum is also presenting “La mode en majest\u00e9”, dedicated to haute couture and tradition at the Thai royal court, featuring more than a hundred garments and accessories from the royal collections, until 1 November 2026<\/strong>. The exhibition highlights Queen Sirikit’s role in modernising traditional dress, notably through her collaboration with Pierre Balmain and the Maison Lesage.<\/p>\n
