The most sought-after back-to-school haircuts<\/a> of 2026<\/a> already have a clear frontrunner, and it comes in three very distinct versions. Beauty platform Fresha analysed Google search trends, and the verdict is unambiguous: the bob reigns supreme at the top of the most-searched short haircuts over the past three months.<\/p>\n

Three bobs dominating Google searches for back-to-school haircuts<\/h2>\n

The numbers speak for themselves. Among the back-to-school haircuts that have seen searches skyrocket, the Scandi Bob leads by a wide margin with +408% in searches<\/strong>. Behind it, the Butterfly Bob records +174%<\/strong>, and the Riviera Bob rounds out the podium with +125%<\/strong>. These three bob cuts are capturing the lion’s share of interest from people looking for a fresh look<\/a> for the new season.<\/p>\n

This phenomenon confirms that the bob remains a safe bet. But these three variations are far from identical: they each speak to very different desires and hair profiles. Before booking an appointment at the salon, it’s worth knowing which one truly suits your hair type<\/a> and face shape.<\/p>\n

The Riviera Bob, for volume without the styling effort<\/h2>\n

Among the back-to-school haircuts on the rise, the Riviera Bob wins people over with its balance between polish and effortlessness. A spin-off of the Italian Bob, which tends to be bouncier and sleeker, it sets itself apart with a less groomed finish. According to hairstylist Tom Smith, it retains a voluminous, put-together shape, but with subtly undone ends that bring movement and softness. Hairdresser Danielle Priano also highlights its generous texture and slightly tousled effect.<\/p>\n

Its length can extend beyond the jaw and down to the collarbone. The internal layering is long and gradual, creating volume without requiring a perfect blowout. According to hairdresser Adir Abergel, this cut is designed to stay low-maintenance while keeping a sophisticated look. It works particularly well on fine to medium-thick hair, giving it the appearance of greater density.<\/p>\n

The Butterfly Bob, the most striking cut but also the most demanding<\/h2>\n

The Butterfly Bob is the short version of the iconic Butterfly Cut. It’s typically worn between the jaw and the shoulders, with very visible layering and airy, stacked sections. Hairdresser Jenna Spino explains that the strands are heavily tapered, with shorter lengths on top of the head and around the crown. The result is reminiscent of butterfly wings, hence the name.<\/p>\n

That said, this bob does require a certain commitment when it comes to styling. From blowouts to large rollers, you’ll need to master a few tools to recreate the salon result at home. In terms of face shape, hairdresser Chris Baker notes that this cut is particularly well suited to round faces, as the shorter pieces around the face create volume and elongate the features.<\/p>\n

As for texture, hairstylist Phil Smith insists there are no hard and fast rules: the cut works on straight hair as well as curly. However, hair thickness does come into play. Hairdresser Irinel de Le\u00f3n describes it as a sharp, straight bob that still retains a natural softness.<\/p>\n

    To feel current, this bob should never look severe. It’s worn with a texture that appears effortless, in a Quiet Luxury spirit. For styling, a simple centre parting does the trick, or you can sweep a section to one side to create a subtle hint of volume.<\/p>\n

    This style works particularly well on fine to normal hair that is straight to wavy, as its low-volume finish is easier to achieve on those textures. Hairstylist Alicia Dobson notes that it flatters narrow face shapes by creating the illusion of width.
