This 43rd edition brings together museums, monuments, institutions and rarely seen venues for free visits, activities<\/a> and enriched programmes.<\/p>\n

Republican institutions exceptionally open to the public<\/h2>\n

Among the most eagerly anticipated highlights, France’s great institutions of state take pride of place. The Assembl\u00e9e nationale<\/strong> opens its doors on both days, with free-access visits<\/a> to the Palais Bourbon and the H\u00f4tel de Lassay, available by prior registration only. The S\u00e9nat<\/strong>, meanwhile, invites visitors to explore the Palais du Luxembourg, the Petit Luxembourg and the greenhouses of the Jardin du Luxembourg. The Ministry of Agriculture<\/strong> also joins the movement, unveiling the H\u00f4tel de Villeroy, a private mansion in the 7th arrondissement that is normally closed to the public.<\/p>\n

These openings are rare. They offer a chance to step inside the spaces of power that most of us pass by without ever entering. Registrations for these visits fill up fast, so it is well worth planning ahead.<\/p>\n

Iconic monuments: free entry for this cultural landmark weekend<\/h2>\n

Paris’s great monuments are also part of the event. The Arc de Triomphe<\/strong> and the Panth\u00e9on<\/strong> open their doors free of charge on 19 and 20 September. It is the perfect opportunity to visit without spending a penny and to experience them from a fresh angle, far removed from the standard tourist circuit.<\/p>\n

The Basilique du Sacr\u00e9-C\u0153ur<\/strong>, perched atop the Butte Montmartre, reveals its secrets over the course of the weekend. The H\u00f4tel de la Marine<\/strong>, on the place de la Concorde, also opens on both days. Each of these venues offers a deep dive into the history of the capital, through architecture and heritage seen in a whole new light.<\/p>\n

Art, culture and behind the scenes: the places you should not miss<\/h2>\n

Art and culture lovers have plenty to look forward to as well. The Mus\u00e9e du Louvre<\/strong> exceptionally opens its art workshops on 19 and 20 September, by registration. It is a chance to learn more about the craftsmanship that goes on behind the scenes, as well as to explore the building’s remarkable architecture. Reservations go quickly, so early booking is strongly advised.<\/p>\n

The \u00c9cole des Beaux-Arts de Paris<\/strong> also welcomes the public for this edition. The Mus\u00e9e des Arts et M\u00e9tiers<\/strong> offers free visits and activities, particularly popular with families and children. Printemps Haussmann<\/strong> and the Galeries Lafayette Haussmann<\/strong> offer guided tours of spaces normally off-limits to the public. These itineraries weave together history, architecture and fascinating anecdotes about these iconic Parisian temples of fashion.<\/p>\n

    The Maison de la RATP<\/strong> opens its Urban Station, the headquarters of Paris’s public transport network. On the programme: simulator driving and a ride on a vintage bus, for a full immersion in the history of \u00cele-de-France transport.
