More than 400,000 people<\/strong> have already registered to attend the Pope’s mass in Paris<\/a>, scheduled for 26 September 2026<\/strong> at place de la Concorde. Even before Leo XIV sets foot in the capital, the first disruptions are already making themselves felt for Parisians this week.<\/p>\n

Real traffic disruptions starting 2 September for drivers<\/h2>\n

Preparation works will not come without an impact on traffic. From Wednesday 2 September<\/a> at 10 pm<\/strong>, the central reservation at place de la Concorde will be closed off. In practice, any driver wishing to cross the square from south to north will have to abandon their usual route and take quai des Tuileries instead.<\/p>\n

For now, the northern and western crossings remain accessible via the western side lane. But that breathing room will be short-lived. The Prefecture of Police has confirmed that restrictions will tighten day by day as the infrastructure needed to welcome the pontiff is put in place. The Pope’s full programme in Paris on 25 and 26 September<\/h2>\n

Leo XIV’s visit spans two days<\/strong> in the capital. On 25 September<\/strong>, the Pope will celebrate vespers at Notre-Dame, then meet President Emmanuel Macron. That evening, he will lead a vigil at the Stade de France aimed at young people aged 18 to 35<\/strong>. No fewer than 80,000 participants<\/strong> are expected for this night of prayer.<\/p>\n

The following day, 26 September<\/strong>, the mass will take place at place de la Concorde and along the Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es.
