The Pope’s visit to Paris<\/a> is taking on a very tangible shape with the publication of the exact route for this procession, scheduled for Friday 25 September 2026<\/strong>. Here is everything you need to know to experience it in the best possible conditions.<\/p>\n

A 2.5-kilometre route through the heart of the Left Bank<\/h2>\n

The popemobile will set off at 4 pm from the church of Notre-Dame-des-Champs<\/strong>, in the 6th arrondissement. The pontiff will then make his way to place Saint-Michel<\/strong><\/a>, where he is expected to arrive around 5 pm. To get there, the motorcade will travel along boulevard du Montparnasse and then boulevard Saint-Michel towards the Seine.<\/p>\n

This 2.5-kilometre<\/strong> route will be fully pedestrianised and secured for the occasion. Entry is free<\/a> and open to everyone, with no advance booking required. It is, in short, a rare opportunity to experience the Pope’s visit to Paris up close, with no financial outlay or administrative hurdles.<\/p>\n

Before the Pope passes through, entertainment will animate the route throughout the afternoon. More than 50 amateur music groups<\/strong> will perform along the way, interspersed with moments of singing and prayer to create an atmosphere that is both festive and contemplative<\/a>.<\/p>\n

How to prepare: the practical rules you need to know<\/h2>\n

To welcome the public in good conditions, the organisers have set up 12 independent welcome zones<\/strong>. Each has its own entry point, monitored by the Pr\u00e9fecture de police and volunteers mobilised for the event. Moving freely between sectors is not possible: leaving one zone means exiting the secured perimeter and going through a new security check to enter another.<\/p>\n

Screening points will open from 12 noon<\/strong>, four hours before the Pope passes through. Arriving early allows you to choose your spot and enjoy the entertainment planned in advance. The detailed map of the 12 sectors and their access points is still to be communicated by the authorities.<\/p>\n

What you can and cannot bring<\/h2>\n

The Pope’s visit to Paris comes with a strict security framework. Several items are formally prohibited within the secured perimeter:<\/p>\n

  • Pyrotechnic products<\/li>\n
  • Alcohol and glass containers<\/li>\n
  • Motorcycle or bicycle helmets<\/li>\n

    Flags and banners, however, are permitted after inspection. One important caveat: rigid poles, whether made of wood, metal or hard plastic, are banned. It is therefore advisable to bring flexible supports if you want to display your colours.<\/p>\n

    The popemobile: first stop in a packed evening<\/h2>\n

    This popemobile procession is not a standalone event within the Pope’s visit to Paris. It leads directly into Vespers at Notre-Dame de Paris at 5.15 pm<\/strong>, just fifteen minutes after the arrival at place Saint-Michel. Later that evening, a major youth vigil is planned at the Stade de France<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    The following day, Saturday 26 September<\/strong>, Leo XIV will preside over an open-air Mass at 3 pm<\/strong> on place de la Concorde and along the Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es. The Pope’s visit to Paris thus spans two packed days, with several events open to the public.
