The Journ\u00e9es du Patrimoine 2026<\/a><\/strong> make V\u00e9theuil an unmissable destination for anyone looking to blend history, art and artisanal craft, on 19 and 20 September 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

V\u00e9theuil, the village that painters put on the map<\/h2>\n

Before diving into the programme, it helps to understand why V\u00e9theuil draws such a crowd. This Val d’Oise commune has seduced some of the greatest artists: Pierre Bonnard, Jean-Baptiste Corot and Claude Monet all set up their easels here. It is precisely this natural beauty and rich past that make V\u00e9theuil such a fitting stage for the Journ\u00e9es du Patrimoine.<\/p>\n

This year, the context is especially meaningful. The village’s artisan craftspeople<\/a> are joining forces with the Maison Claude Monet to mark the centenary of the painter’s death. The trail on offer weaves together historic heritage, contemporary creation<\/a> and skills passed down through the generations.<\/p>\n

Monet’s house and the Seine at the heart of the Journ\u00e9es du Patrimoine 2026<\/h2>\n

One of the highlights of this edition is a visit to the residence where Claude Monet and his wife lived for several years. Located at 16 avenue Claude Monet<\/strong>, the house offers an intimate glimpse into the painter’s world, halfway between Giverny and Paris.<\/p>\n

Another rare experience: a mini-conference aboard a river ferry on the Seine. Over 15 minutes<\/strong> on the water, guide Claire Vincent traces the unique bond between Monet and this riverside landscape. It was here, at this very spot, that the painter travelled on his own studio boat between 1878 and 1881<\/strong>, producing around a hundred paintings of the Seine. The activity is limited to 11 people<\/strong> and runs by reservation only, on both Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 10:30<\/strong>. The landing stage is a five-minute walk from the Maison Claude Monet.<\/p>\n

Artisan workshops where heritage becomes hands-on<\/h2>\n

The Journ\u00e9es du Patrimoine 2026 in V\u00e9theuil go well beyond guided tours. Several workshops are opening their doors free of charge to bring tangible craftsmanship to life.<\/p>\n

  • The weaving workshop showcases a cast-iron loom weighing 2,500 kg<\/strong>, manufactured in East Germany in 1956<\/strong>, capable of producing complex weaves with raised patterns.<\/li>\n
  • The Sophie Dupeyrat gallery workshops welcome engraver Emilie Bertolin, who presents her manual cylinder press inspired by the first presses created in 1860, alongside prints centred on Claude and Camille Monet.<\/li>\n
  • Ceramicist Ingrid Hiver exhibits tableware created specially for the occasion: bowls and pitchers inspired by the period crockery depicted in Monet’s paintings.<\/li>\n
  • Atelier Colette presents an exhibition of fashion engravings tracing the evolution of styles across the generations, on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • The Foyer rural de V\u00e9theuil hosts a live demonstration of antique book restoration, as well as a talk on fashion in the age of the Impressionists, on Sunday from 15:30<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    That talk, led by Lucile Daubercies, a student at the \u00c9cole du Louvre, draws on works by Monet and fellow Impressionist painters to chart the evolution of women’s fashion between 1860 and 1880<\/strong>. Crinolines, bustles, cashmere shawls and Japanese influences are all decoded through the lens of costume history.<\/p>\n

    The Notre-Dame church and practical information<\/h2>\n

    The \u00c9glise Notre-Dame de la Nativit\u00e9 de la Vierge is also opening its doors for free guided tours, no reservation required, from Saturday to Sunday between 9:00 and 18:00<\/strong>. This historic pilgrimage site preserves a wealth of furnishings from the Ancien R\u00e9gime. Monet himself painted it, which gives it a singular place in the local heritage.<\/p>\n

    Almost all activities on offer during these Journ\u00e9es du Patrimoine 2026 are free and require no booking, with the exception of the Seine ferry ride.
