When a couturier and a perfumer reconnect after years of friendship, something unexpected can emerge: not a straightforward commercial collaboration, but a genuine olfactory library. That is precisely what Frank Sorbier and Olivier Perault, senior perfumer at Robertet in Grasse, have built together under the name Sorbier Parfums<\/strong>, weaving a dialogue between Haute Couture fabrics<\/a> and the raw materials of perfumery.<\/p>\n

When friendship becomes the engine of olfactory creation<\/h2>\n

It all begins with a long-standing human relationship. Frank Sorbier and Olivier Perault have known each other for years, and it is precisely that mutual trust which made the project possible. Without it, the research Sorbier had been keeping since 2000, reflections on fragrance<\/a> that had lain dormant for more than two decades, might well have remained in their folders.<\/p>\n

The catalyst was the Haute Couture collection<\/a> of June 2024, entitled “Nuages”<\/strong>. Frank Sorbier wanted to give it an olfactory identity, a complementary sensory imprint. He sent Olivier Perault a photograph of an iconic look from the collection. The perfumer wanted to observe its texture, absorb it, understand what it was saying. That simple gesture was enough to reveal an obvious truth: Haute Couture and fragrance had long had a rendezvous.<\/p>\n

Isabelle Sorbier, Frank’s muse and partner, played a founding role in this adventure. Her enduring love of beautiful perfumes<\/a>, shared without reservation, helped transform an intuition into a concrete reality.<\/p>\n

Two disciplines, one shared pursuit of emotion<\/h2>\n

What is striking about the Sorbier Parfums approach is the deep coherence between the two crafts. Olivier Perault puts it plainly: where Frank Sorbier sketches a silhouette, he writes a formula. Where the couturier constructs a textile architecture, the perfumer composes an olfactory one. The fabrics that inspire one are, for the other, what raw materials are in perfumery.<\/p>\n

Yet the two creators refuse to reduce their work to a simple act of translation. The aim is not to convert a fabric into a scent, but to recapture the emotion it gives rise to. Chapter I<\/strong> of the olfactory library illustrates this perfectly: the velvet of this first creation has an immediate, almost sensual tactile power that both men recognise without needing to explain it. The Sorbier olfactory library is organised into “Chapters”, each associated with an iconic Haute Couture fabric. This narrative format reflects Frank Sorbier’s vision of fragrance as a great open book, capable of welcoming every form of beauty.<\/p>\n

The niche perfumery market is more competitive than ever. Yet Sorbier Parfums does not position itself as a response to a trend. Frank Sorbier speaks of an aspiration he calls Haute Parfumerie<\/strong>: a return to the grand tradition, where the time devoted to creation, the quality of raw materials and the precision of the gesture take precedence over passing fashions.<\/p>\n

    A bridge between two arts, open in both directions<\/h2>\n

    The question of creative direction is raised directly: could a fragrance one day inspire a Haute Couture collection, rather than the other way around? Frank Sorbier refuses to set the two disciplines against each other. For him, they spring from the same quest, an emotion searching for its most fitting form of expression. Sometimes that quest becomes a collection, sometimes a fragrance, and sometimes the two travel together.<\/p>\n

    Olivier Perault goes further. He points out that a fragrance carries within it colours, textures, volumes and even movement. It can conjure images as powerful as a sketch or a length of fabric.     Sorbier Parfums is not seeking exclusivity for its own sake. Frank Sorbier is clear on this point: what he wants to protect is a creative freedom and a time for maturation that nothing should compromise. The olfactory library is intended to grow with new Chapters, and perhaps eventually with full olfactory novels, provided each creation maintains the same exacting standard.<\/p>\n
