An ICC decision with far-reaching diplomatic consequences

A specialist in international law, Amal Clooney was called in by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in May 2024 to analyze the admissibility of war crimes charges against the Israeli Prime Minister and Yoav Gallant, former Minister of Defense. The panel of experts on which she sits rules in favor of the arrest warrant. Trump strikes back with executive order: visas cancelled and property seized

In February 2025, Donald Trump signed Executive Order 14203, aimed directly at ICC collaborators. It orders the seizure of real estate and the revocation of visas for all “ICC officials and their families”. Officially, the decree denounces illegitimate interference, since neither the USA nor Israel recognizes the Rome Statute.

While only the prosecutor Karim Khan is explicitly named, several diplomatic sources – including the Financial Times – indicate that other experts, including Amal Clooney, would also be targeted. She would therefore risk losing access to her Manhattan penthouse and her Los Angeles villa, purchased for $2.2 million.
