Desperate Housewives returns… but not in the way you’d expect
Thirteen years after it ended, the cult series Desperate Housewives is preparing its comeback. But forget Susan, Bree, Lynette and Gabrielle… the famous suburban neighborhood of Wisteria Lane is getting a totally redesigned spin-off, announced soon by the Onyx Collective platform.
A faithful yet daring reboot
The project is not presented as a direct sequel, but as a modern reinterpretation of the original universe. Simply titled Wisteria Lane, the show promises to be “funny, sexy and darkly humorous“, according to Deadline. The synopsis? Seemingly perfect families, immaculate villas, gleaming SUVs… but behind every curtain, well-kept secrets.
New creative team, new tone
Gone is Marc Cherry, the series’ original creator. The spin-off will be entrusted to screenwriter Natalie Chaidez, already noted for her work on The Flight Attendant. This new version aims to take a current look at appearances in chic suburbia in the age of social networking, while retaining the DNA of a fast-paced soap.
On the casting front, none of the original stars – Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman or Marcia Cross – have been confirmed (yet). But Eva Longoria has declared that she would be “the first to say yes” if offered the role of Gabrielle Solis.
Strategic expectation and nostalgia in perfect proportion
No release date has yet been announced, but the anticipation effect is already well underway. Meanwhile, the original series remains available on Disney+, keeping nostalgia alive for long-time fans.
