Nicole Kidman honored at Cannes

It’s one of Hollywood’s most powerful figures who will be taking to the steps this year. In May 2025, Nicole Kidman will be awarded the prestigious Prix Women in Motion, presented by the Cannes Film Festival and the Kering Group, in recognition of both her outstanding career and her commitment to women in cinema.

A filmography of powerful female characters

Oscar-winner and multiple Golden Globe winner Nicole Kidman has built a career of daring choices and complex roles. From the icy, manipulative figure in Prête à tout (Gus Van Sant), to the troubled sensuality of Eyes Wide Shut (Stanley Kubrick), for three decades she has embodied women who are free, ambivalent and free of stereotypes.

In Halina Reijn’s Babygirl, her latest film, she plays a powerful CEO caught up in a confusing game of seduction with a trainee, once again embodying a female power figure confronted with her desires.

A producer who creates space for others

But Nicole Kidman doesn’t just shine in front of the camera. With Blossom Films, her production company founded in 2010, she actively supports emerging female directors and authors. Her stated aim? Shoot with a woman director every 18 months. And she’s kept her promise: she’s collaborated with 19 female directors since 2017.

In the midst of a growing awareness of the under-representation of women in the industry (only 32% of speaking female characters according to the Kering report), her action is as symbolic as it is concrete.

What next?

Recently seen in Mimi Cave’s Holland, Nicole Kidman will soon reprise her role as Masha Dmitrichenko in season 2 of Nine Perfect Strangers, starting May 21 on Hulu. Proof that her trajectory continues to inspire and challenge the norm.
