Met Gala: Gigi Hadid resurrects Josephine Baker in Miu Miu

When a modern muse (Gigi Hadid) meets a legend from the past (Joséphine Baker), the result lights up an entire red carpet.

A long-awaited appearance

On May 5, 2025, Gigi Hadid once again conquered the Met Gala. A regular at the event, this year the American supermodel wore a bespoke Miu Miu gown, conceived as a vibrant tribute to Josephine Baker. The theme of the edition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, called for an exploration of African-American elegance throughout history – and Gigi responded to this invitation with intelligence and accuracy.

The dress she wore was directly inspired by a creation by Zelda Wynn Valdes, iconic costume designer of the 1950s and the first black stylist to open her own boutique on Broadway. It was she who dressed the likes of Eartha Kitt and Ella Fitzgerald – but above all Joséphine Baker, to whom Gigi paid a glittering tribute here.

Fluid drapes, carefully arranged crystals, intense gold punctuated by silver touches: everything evoked the incandescent glamour of the Parisian Roaring Twenties scene. A subtle bridge between past and present, worn by one of today’s most influential fashion muses.

Miu Miu, a well-chosen house

Having already shone in Givenchy and Versace, Gigi Hadid now reinforces her close relationship with Miu Miu, for whom she is muse, ambassador and curator. Her recent participation in the brand’s Autumn-Winter 2025-2026 show in Paris foreshadowed this masterful appearance. With her choice of a dress combining gold and silver, she proves that daring style can also be combined with historical fidelity.

Gigi Hadid didn’t just wear a dress that evening: she embodied a memory. And a reminder that fashion, when it becomes a story, can touch on the timeless.
