Cannes at UGC: what you’ll miss if you don’t go out
The Cannes Film Festival 2025 is no longer limited to the Croisette. Thanks to UGC, it’s infiltrating 33 cinemas across France. And what that means goes far beyond a simple screening.
Cannes in Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux… without leaving your neighbourhood
From May 7, UGC is launching a unique operation to bring the Cannes Film Festival to life in its own cinemas. The event kicks off on May 13 with a live broadcast of the Opening Ceremony presented by Laurent Lafitte, followed by the film Partir un jour byAmélie Bonnin, in the Official Selection.
But that’s just the first scene: six cult films from previous editions of the festival will make up a cinephile retrospective spread over three weeks. From Parasite to Mad Max: Fury Road, including The Prophet and Drive, the program is designed to reflect the cinematic diversity and emotion of past winners.
More than just a publicity stunt
At a time when festivals are becoming increasingly exclusive, UGC is opting instead forcultural inclusivity. “We want our spectators to experience the Festival as if they were there,” explains Henri Ernst, Director of Programming.
Beyond the cinematic nostalgia, several cinemas will be showing previews of films from the 2025 official selection. A way of transforming the spectator into an active participant in the event, rather than a passive witness.
And in Paris? Programming that redefines the cinema experience
At a time when cinema attendance remains fragile, this initiative is part of a wider drive to rekindle the desire to go to the cinema. In Paris, some screenings will take place in iconic locations such as UGC Les Halles, already a landmark for many cultural events.
From May 7 to 27, UGC is handing you a ticket to Cannes without a train ticket. It’s a smart, hybrid event, perhaps even more immersive than a remote red carpet. Are you ready for the ultimate local cinema experience?
