Kim Kardashian stars in Eva Longoria movie
An influencer in Hollywood? When Kim Kardashian steps in front of the camera, it’s never a trivial matter.
A strategic move into film
Kim Kardashian is taking the next step in her media metamorphosis: her very first starring role in a film. She will headline The Fifth Wheel, an original comedy produced by Netflix, which she is also co-producing. A project that marks a decisive turn in the career of the Skims founder, already noticed in American Horror Story: Delicate and soon to be seen in All’s Fair, due in August 2025 on Hulu.
Eva Longoria as director: a far from random choice
Behind the camera, another strong female figure: Eva Longoria. Known to the general public for her role in Desperate Housewives, she is now establishing herself as a committed director. After several series episodes and a first feature film(Flamin’ Hot) acclaimed at the South by Southwest festival in 2023, Longoria here directs an ambitious female cast, co-written by Paula Pell(Saturday Night Live) and Janine Brito(Girls5eva).
A plot that’s still a secret but already coveted
The title, The Fifth Wheel, hints at a situational comedy with a focus on relationship humor and social quirk. Few details have been released about the script, but the project sparked a veritable tug-of-war between studios in the fall of 2023, won by Netflix, seduced by the comic potential and creative synergy.
A project for women… and feminism?
Produced by Gloria Sanchez Productions (responsible for Booksmart) and Hyphenate Media (Eva Longoria’s studio), the film has a clear ambition: to reaffirm women’s view of women in the entertainment industry. The partnership between Kardashian, icon of media mastery, and Longoria, actress-turned-producer-director, embodies a new balance of power in Hollywood.
