Cartier hacked: the case the brand didn’t shout about from the rooftops
A discreet email, but a real shockwave. The fast-growing house of Cartier finds itself at the heart of an almost unnoticed cyber scandal.
Unauthorized access to customer data
According to Reuters, which consulted a message sent to Cartier customers on June 3, 2025, the jewelry and watchmaking house was the victim of a targeted cyberattack. Hackers are said to have temporarily accessed the brand’s databases. The information concerned? Names, e-mail addresses and countries of residence. According to official statements , no banking data was compromised.
Against a backdrop of intense digital pressure, Cartier – owned by the Swiss group Richemont – claims to have since contained the incident, while announcing a strengthening of its security systems. Collaboration with external cybersecurity experts is now at the heart of their defense strategy.
A growing cyber threat to luxury
While the incident is noteworthy, Cartier is not an isolated case. Dior, The North Face, Adidas, Marks & Spencer and Victoria’s Secret have all recently experienced similar intrusions. These attacks target sensitive data from consumers with high purchasing power, in sectors where confidentiality is a marker of prestige.
TheANSSI (Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d’information) confirms this worrying trend: 4,386 IT incidents were recorded in France in 2024, of which 1,361 were deemed critical. This represents an increase of +15%, partly due to the organization of the Olympic Games in Paris that same year.
Reputations at stake for luxury giants
In a world where image is an intangible asset, a digital flaw can have disastrous consequences. Even if no banking data is leaked, the mere fact of having been hacked can shake the confidence of a demanding clientele.
Cartier is trying to stay in control, but this attack is a reminder that even the most prestigious brands are not immune to digital threats.
