Lola Young shakes up pop with a rule-breaking single
At the age of 24, Lola Young no longer sings about love: she attacks it, deconstructs it and laughs about it. Her new single is a generational manifesto.
“Not Like That Anymore”: Lola Young’s version of freedom
On June 20, 2025, British singer Lola Young unveiled “Not Like That Anymore”, the second single from her forthcoming album “I’m Only F**king Myself”, due for release on September 19. The track marks a musical and symbolic turning point for the singer who, since Messy, has been churning out viral hits and daring stage performances.
Through a minimalist, sensual production by Manuka and SOLOMONOPHONIC (known for their collaborations with Doja Cat and SZA), Lola Young delivers a track that is at once irreverent, funny and disarming. She deconstructs the power dynamics of love and sex, overturning stereotypes with disconcerting ease.
A rising generational voice
Far from aseptic pop formulas, Lola Young asserts her raw, unapologetic songwriting. With “Not Like That Anymore”, she follows in the footsteps of Messy, which became a TikTok anthem in 2024, and One Thing, with an even more introspective tone. I’m Only FkingMyself**, her third album, promises to be a frontal plunge into the meanders of self-sabotage, desire and illusions.
This radical, unfiltered approach appeals to a generation in search of authenticity. In her lyrics, self-mockery rubs shoulders with confession, and her way of transforming vulnerability into power places her alongside artists such as Arlo Parks and Olivia Rodrigo.
An eagerly awaited international tour
After sharing the stage with Billie Eilish in Paris and making her mark at Coachella, Lola Young is set to set Glastonbury and American and European stages alight this autumn. Her name is becoming unavoidable.
