Miu Miu reinvents reading: gardens of the world to escape to with Beauvoir and Enchi

When a fashion house decides to dress minds as well as bodies, the result is a rare experience. With its Summer Reads project, Miu Miu celebrates literature at its most intimate, feminine and universal.

An ode to reading in the heart of the city

For the second edition of Miu Miu Summer Reads, the Italian fashion house transforms the most beautiful urban gardens into open-air libraries. From June 27 to 29, 2025, Beijing, Hong Kong, Milan, Osaka and Paris become the stage for an immersive experience between words and nature. Each city is adorned with a unique visual universe, with symbolic colors and personalized bookplates, a discreet tribute to the world of books.

Participants are invited to sit back, read and chat in a space designed for contemplation. At the heart of this interlude: two major 20th-century authors, Simone de Beauvoir and Fumiko Enchi, united by their lucid and poetic view of the female condition.

Two powerful voices, two views of intimacy

Miu Miu has chosen to honor Simone de Beauvoir “s Les Inséparables and Fumiko Enchi”s Femmes en attente, two works that still resonate today. The former evokes the thwarted friendship of two young girls in a world that stifles them. The second explores desire, submission and emancipation in post-war Japan.

Each visitor will leave with a free copy of one of the two books, presented in an exclusive Miu Miu edition including dust jacket, bookmark, reading clip and collector’s stamp. An elegant and symbolic gesture, transforming the book into a precious, almost talismanic object.

Five locations, five atmospheres

The dates and locations are carefully chosen to offer a geopoetics of calm and introspection:

  • Beijing: Chaoyang Park – June 27 (11am-8pm), June 28 (10am-8pm)
  • Hong Kong: Art Park – June 27 (12pm-8pm), June 28 (11am-8pm)
  • Milan: Giardino delle Arti – June 27 and 28 (10am-7pm)
  • Paris: BnF rue Vivienne – June 27 (1pm-7pm), June 28 (10am-7pm)
  • Osaka: Umekita Park – June 28 and 29 (11am-7pm)

Reading as an act of resistance

In the anxiety-inducing digital age, reading becomes a political gesture. With this project, Miu Miu breathes gentleness into the turmoil, and affirms that thought, culture and emotion can be at the heart of contemporary luxury. Summer Reads is not a mundane event: it’s a poetic, committed and profoundly human ritual.
