This Japanese coffee-shop hides a unique sensory experience in Paris

A coffee-shop resembling a Japanese vinyl bar opens in the heart of Paris. A blend of retro design and specialty coffee, NAMI redefines the coffee experience.

NAMI: a Japanese wave in the Marais

Freshly opened in May 2025, NAMI means “wave” in Japanese – and the name is no coincidence. Located at 145 rue Saint-Denis, at the entrance to the Passage du Grand-Cerf, the place invites you to travel back to the Tokyo of the 70s. You enter as if into a hushed memory: subdued lighting, carefully sorted vinyl records and café d’auteur.

Conceived by Dani Phanekham-Baudouin, creator of the acclaimed Vague Coffee, NAMI combines Californian aesthetics, Australian accents and Japanese influences. A carefully crafted fusion, served up in a decor designed by Studio Aurios, combining noble materials and an intimate atmosphere.

A chiselled menu on the borderline between tradition and modernity

Here, every drink is customizable: plant milks, homemade syrups, adapted dosage. But it’s matcha that’s the star of the show, in its revisited iced version, infused with strawberry or blueberry (the house favorite).

There’s also a cutting-edge selection of Japanese teas, signature creations such as matcha tonic, and specialty coffees roasted by renowned artisans such as KB Coffee Roasters, AMOC and Rumbaba. Extractions are made with a La Marzocco installed by Calcaire Paris – a benchmark in the world of high-flying coffee machines.

Homemade pastries in tune with the seasons

On the sweet side, the sweet treats are all homemade, with recipes that change with the seasons: white chocolate and sesame miso cookie, fondant mochi cake, or marbled black sesame cake. Desserts designed as a sensory interlude, to be enjoyed on site or on the terrace.
