Balenciaga x Demna: an exhibition before a theatrical departure
A grand farewell. That’s how we might sum up the Balenciaga by Demna exhibition, on show in Paris until July 9, 2025. This retrospective marks the end of a chapter in the House’s history that was as disruptive as it was significant.
A decade of iconic silhouettes
Ten years after her debut at Balenciaga, Demna bids farewell to the label with an intimate, immersive exhibition. Installed on the Left Bank, in the house’s historic former headquarters – now owned by Kering, its parent group – this exhibition brings together some one hundred pieces, from the 30 collections imagined between 2015 and 2025.
Clothing, accessories, shoes, invitations, personal pieces and even hyper-realistic sculptures punctuate the itinerary. All this is enriched by art installations conceived with artists from the Balenciaga Art in Stores program.
Immerse yourself in the Demna universe
Some creations are accompanied by a soundtrack recorded by the designer himself, offering a personal commentary on his approach, his inspirations and his often polemical approach to fashion.
Demna left her mark on Balenciaga with a radical aesthetic, featuring exaggerated volumes, hijacked mainstream references and a bold return to haute couture, which the House had abandoned half a century earlier.
Demna, one last wink before Gucci
If this exhibition seems like a farewell, it’s also the prelude to a new chapter. In a few days’ time, Demna will take over as Artistic Director of Gucci. Another brand in the Kering Group, which is seeking to reinvent itself after a slow period.
