Rihanna glows in French haute couture
Rihanna doesn’t just attend an event: she redefines it. At the Brussels premiere of The Smurfs, she delivered a lesson in couture style, wrapped in an archive piece reinterpreted by Chanel.
A vibrant tribute to Chanel Haute Couture
The Barbadian star wore a celadon-green silk and chiffon two-piece inspired by the mythical 50s look from Chanel’s Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2003 collection. If the soothing color contrasts with the red of the carpet, it’s to better highlight the 80,200 embroidered elements – crystals, porcelain sequins, jeweled buttons – that stud the silhouette with vertiginous mastery.
Added to this are 250 feathers, lightly distributed to emphasize movement, giving the whole an airy, almost celestial feel. A work of textile art, sensual, precious and spectacularly crafted.
A camellia, hours and genius
The highlight of this outfit? A tone-on-tone camellia in organza and feathers, a discreet but powerful nod to Chanel’s floral icon. A true couture signature, it acts here as a visual totem, a reminder of the link between heritage and reinvention.
This piece took 840 hours to make – a figure more reminiscent of goldsmithing than traditional fashion. This level of detail reflects Chanel’s obsession with the handmade, the rare, the sublime.
Rihanna: contemporary couture muse
With this appearance, Rihanna confirms her status as the couture muse of the 21st century. She doesn’t wear fashion: she transcends it. Each appearance becomes a visual narrative, a textile manifesto between tradition and avant-garde.
