The Moulin Rouge regains its wings: a symbol of Paris takes flight again

The Moulin Rouge has set its iconic red wings in motion again, having fallen in April 2024. A long-awaited return, celebrated in style on July 10.

The Moulin Rouge, a legendary institution in the Pigalle district, has been restored to its legendary glory. After their sudden collapse on the night of April 24-25, 2024, the cabaret’s revolving red wings were restored and put back into operation. A delicate technical operation carried out in just seven weeks by CMP Constructions Métalliques, with a precise objective: to be ready for the passage of the Olympic flame on July 15.

These wings, installed as early as 1889, had virtually never stopped turning. Their temporary disappearance shocked Parisians, tourists and heritage lovers alike. Emotions ran high, and messages of support abounded. Today, their return to the skies over Montmartre revives an icon of the city.

A festive happening for a symbolic rebirth

On July 10 at 10:45pm, an exceptional event will take place on Place Blanche: Moulin Rouge artists will take to the streets in costume, in an explosion of feathers, rhinestones and music. A celebration open to the public, to pay tribute to the history of the cabaret and the emotion generated by this fanfare return.

There’s more to the Moulin Rouge than its wings. It’s also a showplace not to be missed, with the Féerie revue, performed twice nightly to an annual audience of 600,000. On stage, 90 artists of 18 nationalities, more than 1,000 sparkling costumes, sumptuous sets and the unmissable French Cancan set the pace for 1h40 of this internationally acclaimed show.

An eternal Paris, between tradition and renewal

The return of the Moulin Rouge’s wings comes at just the right time, as Paris prepares to host the Olympic Games. It’s a powerful image: the capital is reinventing itself without forgetting its roots.
