Dior and dance: the elegance of movement on show in Paris
Galerie Dior pays tribute to the world of choreography with an exhibition celebrating the influence of dance in the house’s creations.
On view until the end of September 2025 at 11 rue François-Ier, in Paris’s 8th arrondissement.
Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s artistic director, is always keen to bring fashion into dialogue with other artistic disciplines. This season, contemporary and classical dance take center stage in the prestigious setting of 30 avenue Montaigne, where the Galerie Dior devotes an entire room to this theme, rarely tackled so head-on by the fashion house.
The tour begins with historic Christian Dior creations, including the costumes made in 1947 for the ballet “Treize danses” choreographed by Roland Petit. These pieces testify to the house’s longstanding interest in the art of gesture. Closer to home, visitors can admire the silhouettes designed in 2019 by Maria Grazia Chiuri for “Chapter 3: The Brutal Journey of the Heart”, a show by choreographer Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar. The expressiveness of the materials and the precision of the cuts reveal a close dialogue between couture and stage performance.
An exhibition exploring the fluidity of body and fabric
The sober, rhythmic scenography highlights rarely-seen archive pieces, preparatory sketches and rehearsal videos. Visitors are invited to reflect on how clothing accompanies and even amplifies movement. The tutu revisited, the leotard and the flowing dresses on show demonstrate the technical demands involved in creating stage costumes.
A new addition to the Galerie Dior’s permanent collection
This room, dedicated to dance, completes the Galerie Dior’s larger museum tour, structured in thirteen sections. Here, visitors can rediscover the milestones in the history of the fashion house through a multitude of iconic silhouettes, archival documents, drawings and photographs.
For fans of fashion, dance or art history, this temporary exhibition is a must-see on any cultural itinerary in Paris this summer.
