Les Demoiselles de Rochefort moves to the Théâtre du Lido in October 2025

Jacques Demy’s cult film is reborn as a musical on the Lido stage. Paris celebrates nostalgia, music and pastel enchantment.

The long-awaited return of an iconic film

In 1967, Jacques Demy directed Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, starring Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Dorléac. The music, composed by Michel Legrand, remains a masterpiece of French chanson, still engraved in the collective memory. The film drew over 1.3 million cinema-goers, confirming its status as a cult work of musical cinema.
Today, the story is reborn at the Théâtre du Lido, offering a new stage reading of this joyous, romantic fresco.

A promising and eclectic cast

Delphine and Solange are embodied by four young French singers from the most dynamic lyric and jazz scenes. Marine Chagnon (pictured), Révélation des Victoires de la Musique Classique 2023, interprets Solange with intensity and moving freshness. Canadian singer David Marino, already a fixture on the New York jazz scene, lends his voice to the dreamy sailor Maxence.
Each performance features thirty-six artists on stage, combining dance, song and live music under the musical direction of Patrice Peyriéras.

Between nostalgia and stage modernity

Gilles Rico directs, while Alexis Mabille (pictured) creates the costumes in vibrant, refined colors. As in the film, the twin sisters sing of longing for true love in a tender, choreographed pastel world. Bruno de Lavenère ‘s set design and Tim Mitchell’s lighting prolong this soft, poetic atmosphere. This stage version revives the nostalgia of an era when musicals and shimmering colors lit up the silver screen.
The adaptation respects the spirit of Jacques Demy, while reinventing the show thanks to the talents of contemporary singers, musicians and dancers. A must-see production for the new season in Paris, combining faithfulness to the original work with contemporary theatrical creativity.
