Open-air cinema at the Palais Galliera : Rick Owens signs the program

From September 4 to 6, 2025, the Palais Galliera invites Rick Owens to program his open-air cinema. Three evenings, three films in the image of the designer.

For its fourth year, the Palais Galliera’s open-air cinema returns to the main courtyard of the Paris fashion museum. This year, Rick Owens, currently in the spotlight with the Temple of Love exhibition, takes on the role of guest programmer. A cinematic selection reflecting his gothic and subversive universe, to be discovered on September 4, 5 and 6, 2025.

A selection between cult and transgression

On Thursday September 4, Agniia Galdanova‘s “Queendom” (2025), a documentary focusing on Gena Marvin, a Russian queer artist whose performances defy repression and social codes. A choice that reflects Rick Owens’ attention to figures on the margins and their ability to transform constraint into art.

Friday, September 5, screening of Edgar G. Ulmer‘s “The Black Cat” (1934), a horror classic inspired by Edgar Poe. With Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff on screen, this gothic masterpiece combines thrills and modernist aesthetics. Rick Owens, fascinated by its black-and-white setting, describes it as an example of “radical modernism”.

Finally, on Saturday, September 6, we close with the legendary “Rocky Horror Picture Show” (1975). A cult musical by Jim Sharman, this film celebrates queer culture through its glam-rock extravagance and parodic horror codes. Owens reminds us that this film left its mark on an entire generation of young people in search of a free identity.

When fashion meets cinema

The program reflects Owens’ style: dark, theatrical, but always political. Through these projections, the Palais Galliera pursues its ambition to link fashion and visual culture. After the American designer’s spectacular runway shows, it’s here on screen that he expresses his imagination.

In Paris, this type of event confirms the Palais Galliera’s role as a lively space, where clothing dialogues with other art forms. This open-air cinema, free and open to all, is one of the many summertime initiatives that bring the capital to life.
