Jean Paul Gaultier x Crocs: when “lazy luxury” comes to Paris

Jean Paul Gaultier unveils an unexpected collaboration with Crocs. A hybrid capsule between haute couture and mainstream culture, reflecting a more accessible luxury focused on comfort.

The house of Jean Paul Gaultier continues to make waves with an exclusive capsule signed with Crocs, the American brand that has become a worldwide phenomenon. Known for its controversial design, the Crocs clog is transformed by Gaultier’s eccentric universe. Three models embody this encounter between couture rigor and comfortable nonchalance, defining a new facet of contemporary luxury: “lazy luxury”.

Three couture Crocs à la sauce Gaultier

The collection is available in three new versions:

  • The JPG x Crocs Bae Clog, inspired by the house’s famous corsets, plays with garter belt-style straps, exposed seams and a quilted effect.
  • The JPG x Crocs Classic Clog, all in black, evokes the punk spirit with asymmetrical draping and a safety pin, a nod to the charms that personalize classic Crocs.
  • A third version in lace pays tribute to one of Gaultier’s signature materials.

With this capsule, the Parisian house confirms its ability to revisit popular symbols without betraying its identity. A successful balancing act that confirms the growing role of comfort in the luxury industry.

Lazy luxury” makes its mark

Since the pandemic, luxury has been adapting to new public demands, particularly among Gen Z, for whom comfort and practicality are no longer negotiable. Lazy luxury”, a concept born of this mutation, is now taking over the catwalks as well as the streets.

Jean Paul Gaultier is not the first to take this step: Simone Rocha, Balenciaga and Miu Miu with New Balance have already explored these everyday territories. More recently, Dolce & Gabbana teamed up with Havaianas, confirming that even flip-flops can now carry a prestige label.

Visibility that goes beyond the shoe

This collaboration benefits from a strong digital impact, particularly on Instagram, where the Crocs brand multiplies campaigns with artists such as Post Malone, Justin Bieber and Bad Bunny. The choice of Jean Paul Gaultier, a legendary but always audacious figure, lends strong cultural and symbolic weight to this capsule, at a time when the line between luxury and accessibility is increasingly blurred.

A new version expected in Paris

While the collection is aimed at a global audience, Paris remains a natural terrain of expression for Jean Paul Gaultier. The city, cradle of the house, could host activations or pop-ups linked to this capsule, in the wake of previous events organized by Crocs or Gaultier.
