The Orient Express docks in Paris for the Journées du Patrimoine 2025: a journey through time
The legendary Orient Express train makes a stopover in Paris on September 20 and 21. A rare event not to be missed at the Gare d’Austerlitz.
For the European Heritage Days 2025, the Orient Express, legend of the railways and symbol of French refinement, is making an exceptional stop in Paris, on the platforms of the Gare d’Austerlitz. On September 20 and 21, visitors will have access to seven historic carriages, four of which are classified as historic monuments .
Immerse yourself in railway art deco
It’s not just a train, it’s a plunge into the history of our architectural and craft heritage. Among the railcars on display: La Flèche d’Or, l’Étoile du Nord, le Train Bleu, la Taurus, and the Riviera and Anatolie dining cars. Designed in the 1920s, these jewels on rails bear the signatures of major Art Deco designers such as René Lalique and René Prou.
Restored between 2015 and 2019 by top-quality craftsmen with the Entreprises du Patrimoine Vivant label, these carriages combine precious woodwork, refined glasswork and period upholstery. In the evening, the illuminated train will reveal its most subtle details during nocturnal tours, offering an immersive and poetic experience.
A living heritage in the heart of Paris
This opening to the public is the first since 2022, and is part of the company’s commitment to highlighting its railway heritage as a living art form. It also serves as a reminder that the Orient Express, now owned by the Accor Group, is preparing an ambitious future. In collaboration with LVMH, new hotel and maritime projects will extend this legendary adventure into the world of luxury travel.
In a Paris in perpetual reinvention, this heritage interlude highlights the capital’s central role in preserving and promoting French know-how. A strong link with current issues surrounding cultural tourism and intangible heritage.
