1925-2025. One hundred years of Art Deco: a century of modernity celebrated at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs

The Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris celebrates a century of design and elegance with the exhibition “1925-2025. Cent ans d’Art déco”, presented from October 22, 2025 to April 26, 2026. This major event pays tribute to a style that has left a lasting mark on the history of art, design and fashion. Between heritage and innovation, Art Deco is revealed in all its splendour.

The exhibition brings together almost 1,000 works, testifying to the creative abundance of the Roaring Twenties. Sculptural furniture, precious jewels, objets d’art, drawings and posters reveal the richness of a daring style. Each piece illustrates the quest for a perfect balance between beauty, functionality and refinement. The tour highlights the visionary modernity of the designers of 1925, at a time when Paris was the center of the artistic world.

A century after the1925 Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes, the museum celebrates this surge of innovation that shaped the taste and aesthetics of the XXᵉ century. Art Deco, both geometric and sensual, continues to inspire contemporary designers and architects.

Immersive, sensory scenography

The scenography, conceived as a total experience, immerses visitors in the sumptuous world of the 1920s. Noble materials, vibrant colors and stylized shapes recreate the atmosphere of the great interiors of the era. The exceptional skills of craftsmen, cabinet-makers and jewelers are celebrated through pieces of rare perfection.

Each room plunges you into a thematic universe: luxury, speed, fashion or travel. These themes reveal a style in perpetual evolution, oscillating between classicism and modernity.

The Orient Express, a symbol of dreams and innovation

The exhibition opens with a spectacular display of the legendary Orient Express, the jewel of French luxury. An authentic cabin from the former Étoile du Nord train and three models of the future Orient Express, reinvented by designer Maxime d’Angeac, are on display in the museum’s nave. This grandiose space brings together past and future in a vibrant tribute to the art of travel.

The installation underlines the continuity between the spirit of 1925 and contemporary creativity, inviting visitors to dream of a world where design serves above all the beauty of the gesture.

A journey between heritage and modernity

Throughout the exhibition, Art Deco is revealed in all its diversity and universality. Icons of the movement, such as Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann, Eileen Gray and Jean Dunand, rub shoulders with contemporary designers influenced by their heritage. The dialogue between eras underscores the vitality of a style that has never ceased to reinvent itself.

Between pomp, geometry and innovation, “1925-2025. One hundred years of Art Deco” promises to be one of the most fascinating cultural events of the year. An invitation to rediscover the timeless elegance of a style which, a hundred years on, continues to inspire contemporary design.
