Why is Mariage Frères the best tea salon in Paris?

In the heart of Paris, two addresses embody the art of French tea with grace and refinement. The Salons de Thé Mariage Frères, one nestled in the Marais district, the other on the Right Bank, rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré, are much more than tea houses: they are institutions. For Paris Select, they are quite simply the best tearooms in Paris, where the sensory experience is lived down to the smallest detail.

The heritage of a legendary tea house

Since 1854, Mariage Frères has embodied a certain art of living, nurtured by a family history dating back to the 17th century. Explorers, merchants and ambassadors of taste, the Mariage brothers have passed on their passion for tea from generation to generation. Today, the historic address on rue du Bourg-Tibourg still bears the hallmarks of this tradition: antique woodwork, patinated counters, century-old tins…
This heritage is also evident in the exceptional selection of teas, the fruit of direct collaboration with planters and the finest plots in Asia. Each harvest is rigorously selected, labelled Jardin Premier, and custom-made to guarantee exceptional quality. More than 1,000 references are available at each counter, ranging from grand cru teas to original creations such as blue liqueur or cactus-infused teas.

Exceptional teas, combining seasonality and innovation

In winter, Mariage Frères teas become fragrant escapes: cinnamon, candied citrus, vanilla, spices, each creation is conceived as an immobile voyage. The famous “Christmas Spirit”, a blend of black tea and warm spices, is a seasonal bestseller, as is the “Haute Couture” tea collection, presented in carefully decorated lacquered tins.
This attention to detail is repeated in every season: in summer, we rediscover Mariage Frères tea ice creams (matcha, rose, yuzu, jasmine) or iced teas served in large frosted glasses. These creations reveal the refreshing, contemporary side of tea, in a chic, Parisian spirit.

A unique tea room, where tea becomes the art of the table

At Mariage Frères, you don’t just drink tea: you experience it. Room service, worthy of the finest houses, is carried out by tea experts capable of proposing subtle food and tea pairings. Each savory dish or dessert is designed to dialogue with an infusion: a Darjeeling to highlight a vegetable dish, a Yunnan for a meat dish, a white flower tea to accompany a fruity dessert.

The menu is entirely homemade: savory tarts scented with infusions, green tea veloutés, matcha tea breads and brioches, not to mention creative pastries where each bite tells a tea story. There’s also an exceptional Tea Time, with scones, homemade jams, savory sandwiches, tea-flavored madeleines, spiced shortbread and specially selected teas.

Logs and Tea Time: a taste of winter by Mariage Frères

Winter is a busy season at Mariage Frères, particularly for its end-of-year logs, which rival each other in elegance and creativity. For 2025, the collection features the “Cheval de Feu”, symbolic of Thé des Signes, a gourmet creation with white chocolate mousse and white tea blended with red berries and goji berries. The visual is simply spectacular.

To accompany these sweets, the winter Tea Time is a moment apart: served in the rules of the art with porcelain teapots, fine crockery and a gentle atmosphere, it allows you to rediscover British classics revisited in the French style: scones with Earl Grey, fruit cakes macerated in tea, and fragrant ganaches. A ritual you’ll love!

Galettes des rois worthy of haute pâtisserie

For Epiphany, Mariage Frères is living up to its reputation for gourmet innovation. The 2026 collection of galettes is resolutely audacious: the “Galette des Signes – Cheval de Feu” is filled with an intense red black tea almond cream, enhanced with a touch of pure chocolate and Himalayan pink salt caramel. The puff pastry, golden brown to perfection, contains an emblematic Mariage Frères bean.
Each year, the galettes change flavour and tea, always with the same high standards of creativity and taste. A delight for lovers of reinvented traditions.
