For five seasons now, Emily in Paris has been a spectacular success, both in France and abroad. The Netflix series, which has become a veritable pop phenomenon, has largely contributed to shaping a glamorous and fantasized image of the capital. The wanderings of Emily and her entourage have become a cult for fans, who closely follow every café, terrace and palace they see on screen.
In season 5, Emily and her team continue to wander around Paris, once again offering a vivid postcard of the city. Iconic bars, legendary hotels, historic restaurants and cultural landmarks follow one another, making Paris a character in its own right, as essential as the protagonists themselves.

Paris, Emily in Paris version: cliché and charm intact

As the episodes unfold, Emily in Paris takes us to a succession of iconic locations. We find Emily having a drink at theHôtel du Nord, then at theHôtel du Louvre, while Michel Larocque and Philippine Le Roi Beaulieu meet at the Royal Monceau for an elegant backgammon tournament. The characters also cross paths at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, lunch on the terrace at the Grand Café du Grand Palais, or share more intimate moments at Carita, the famous beauty salon.

Evenings continue at Parisian institutions such as Le Bristol, Le Train Bleu and Maxim’s, before dining at Lafayette’s or La Fontaine Gaillon. Drinks follow at the bar of Le Crillon, at the foot of the palace Le Crillon, or on the terrace of Les Deux Magots. Deux Magotsanother emblematic address on the Left Bank.
Of course, some of these settings may seem deliberately clichéd: palaces, monuments, mythical terraces, views over the rooftops of Paris. But it’s precisely this choice that allows the series to embody Paris at its most immediately recognizable and desirable. Bridges, Haussmann façades, legendary cafés… Emily in Paris plays with symbols, and that’s what makes it so successful.
