Orient Express x Musée des Arts Décoratifs: a century of Art Deco elegance in Paris

An exhibition that redefines luxury and travel. In Paris, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs is staging an eventful exhibition celebrating 100 years of Art Deco through the fascinating lens of theOrient Express myth. In the museum’s majestic Nave, a spectacular recreation of the world of the legendary luxury train invites the public to discover how theArt Deco aesthetic, born at the1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, profoundly influenced the history of design, travel and style. The exhibition, which runs from October 22, 2025 to April 26, 2026, attracts the attention of art, design and cultural history enthusiasts, offering a total immersion in a century of creativity.

The Orient Express as a gateway to a century of creation

The exhibition opens with a spectacular display of an original cabin from the Étoile du Nord train, accompanied by three models of the new Orient Express designed by architect and artistic director Maxime d’Angeac. These pieces, located under the museum’s large glass roof, perfectly illustrate the link between the modernist audacity of 1925 and the contemporary reinvention of luxury travel. They show how this train became a symbol ofelegance, innovation and refinement, embodying the spirit of an era when perfection of detail, technical mastery and total aesthetics were cardinal design values.

The Orient Express, meticulously presented in this scenography, is not just a means of transport: it is a work of art in its own right, embodying a holistic vision of luxury. An exploration of the train – from its refined interiors to its carefully chosen materials – reveals how artisans and artists of the period, such as René Prou, René Lalique and the great “ensembliers” of 1925, helped shape this timeless aesthetic.

A panorama of Art Deco style

Beyond the Orient Express, the exhibition presents a rich and varied panorama ofArt Deco: sculptural furniture, jewelry, fashion, glassware, ceramics and decorative objects that illustrate the diversity and modernity of this movement. Each piece highlights the combination of technical virtuosity and aesthetic daring that made Art Deco one of the most influential artistic movements of the XXᵉ century. Visitors are thus invited to rediscover this heritage in all its splendor and modernity, while reflecting on the evolution of design, luxury and travel across a century.
