Beyond our Horizons: from Tokyo to Paris, a vibrant dialogue between crafts and contemporary creation at Galerie du 19M
From January 29 to April 26, 2026, Galerie du 19M hosts Beyond our Horizons: from Tokyo to Paris, an immersive exhibition celebrating the encounter between Japanese know-how and French craftsmanship. Conceived as a cultural bridge between Asia and Europe, this free exhibition offers a sensitive and contemporary exploration of the links between tradition, innovation and transmission.
After a highly acclaimed first edition in Tokyo, the project arrives in the Paris region in an enriched version, designed specifically for the French public. The exhibition unfolds through a scenographic journey structured into five chapters, inspired by the philosophy of the five elements: earth, water, fire, wind and air. Here, these natural forces become guiding threads, revealing how material, gesture and nature interact in contemporary craft practices.
19M Maisons d’art meet Japanese artists

At the heart of the project, the Maisons d’art du 19M combine their expertise with that of Japanese craftsmen and artists. Embroidery, featherwork, finery, ceramics, textiles and art installations make up a rich and diverse ensemble. The works on display illustrate a vision of living heritage, where ancestral techniques are never static but constantly reinterpreted.

The exhibition highlights the power of intercultural dialogue. The collaborations reveal hybrid creations, where Japanese aesthetic codes meet French artisanal excellence. This fertile confrontation gives rise to original pieces, at the crossroads of poetry, design and plastic experimentation.
An immersive, participatory experience

Beyond our Horizons goes beyond contemplation to offer a truly immersive experience. The public is invited to take part in collaborative workshops, focusing in particular on embroidery and washi paper. These moments of exchange allow visitors to discover concrete gestures and techniques, while fostering a sensitive understanding of the crafts.
Meetings, performances and events also punctuate the program. The exhibition is not limited to showing works of art, but seeks to transmit, share and make accessible practices that are sometimes little-known. In this way, it affirms the essential place of contemporary craft creation in our cultural landscape.
