Station SK in Noisy-le-Grand: the former ghost station becomes a cultural venue with concerts and DJ sets

ParisSelect - Station SK à Noisy-le-Grand : l'ancienne station fantôme devient un lieu culturel avec concerts et DJ sets

A stone’s throw from Paris, a former metro station abandoned for over twenty years is about to be reborn. Located beneath the town of Noisy-le-Grand, SK station is about to undergo a spectacular transformation. In 2026, this forgotten place will fascinate as much as it intrigues lovers of unusual places.

A ghost metro station at the gates of the capital

The Paris metro is full of so-called “ghost” stations. These stops were either built but never opened to the public, or removed when lines were transformed. Today, these abandoned spaces attract urbex enthusiasts and film crews in search of unique sets.

The SK station is one of those unusual places. Built in 1991, it was a masterpiece of futurism at the time. An entire line equipped with the SK system was to link the Mont d’Est RER station to a future business district.

However, this building complex will never see the light of day. As a result, the station and its two stops will never welcome passengers. Initially, RATP ran the trains empty to maintain the equipment. Then, in the early 2000s, the whole complex was abandoned.

“At the gateway to Paris, beneath the town of Noisy-le-Grand, lies the SK station. A futuristic place, initially imagined to link the Mont d’Est RER station to a business district that will never see the light of day.”

A multi-million euro investment that never paid off

This aborted project represents a major financial boondoggle. Millions of euros were invested in this underground infrastructure. Now, these empty spaces bear witness to an urban planning ambition that never materialized.

And so, for over two decades, the SK station remained frozen in time. Its futuristic cabins gather dust underground. What’s more, the tours organized before the work began enabled the curious to discover this little-known heritage.

  • Completed in 1991 with SK system
  • Two stations planned to serve a business district
  • Trains kept running empty by RATP
  • Completely abandoned in the early 2000s
  • Pre-rehabilitation public tours

The rebirth of a unique cultural venue in the Paris region in a former metro station

It wasn’t until 2022 that the municipality decided to revive the site. After years of planning and budget negotiations, the decision was made. The SK station will be transformed into a cultural third place.

Last November, the site closed its doors for good to begin its transformation. On the agenda: two years of work to metamorphose this underground space. Reopening is scheduled for the end of 2027.

This conversion is part of a strong trend. Over the past few years, the number of “third places” in and around Paris has been on the rise. Old factories, derelict land, disused hospitals and former railway stations are now home to creative projects. By contrast, a former subway metro station remains a rare case.

Varied spaces for ambitious programming

The objective is clear: to create a cultural and trendy venue, accessible to all. The program is designed to appeal to a wide range of audiences. The station’s 2,500 m² of floor space offers a wide range of design possibilities.

The different areas will therefore be reorganized according to their uses. One area will be dedicated to virtual reality. Another will host gaming activities for video game enthusiasts.

The Cathedral Room, meanwhile, will be reserved for evening events. Concerts and DJ sets will enliven this impressive space. The old metro cabins will also remain in place, bearing witness to the history of the site. A troglodyte bar will complete the offer.

A new chapter for Paris Region’s underground heritage

This project illustrates a new way of valorizing railway heritage. Abandoned metro stations are precious spaces in dense urban areas. Their conversion gives them a useful second life.

For Parisians, this future address promises memorable evenings. The underground ambience and futuristic architecture will create a unique atmosphere. As a result, this venue should quickly become a must-see.

Railway history buffs will also find plenty to interest them. The preserved cabins provide an insight into the SK system. This automatic metro was ahead of its time when it was designed.

See you at the end of 2027 to discover this transformed station. Until then, work is progressing under the town of Noisy-le-Grand. This conversion proves that even aborted projects can have a bright future.
