John Galliano leaves Margiela: a new chapter begins
After ten years as artistic director of Maison Margiela, fashion icon John Galliano has announced his departure. The decision marks the end of a decade of creativity at the house founded by Martin Margiela.
Arriving in 2014, John Galliano has imprinted his unique vision on the Margiela universe. In a letter published under the pseudonym “Johnny G”, the British designer looks back on this collaboration marked by innovation and his personal journey. He expresses his gratitude to Renzo Rosso, President of OTB Group, and to Martin Margiela, for their unfailing support and the opportunity to rebuild his career after a tumultuous period. Sober for 14 years, Galliano recalls this “second chance” with emotion.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins, John Galliano previously made his mark on fashion as head of Givenchy and Dior, where his bold style redefined the codes of elegance. His ousting from Dior in 2011, following a scandal linked to his addictions, had shaken his career. Yet his time at Margiela demonstrated his ability to reinvent himself while remaining true to his creative essence.
Speculation about his future is rife. Some imagine him at Chanel or Fendi, while others dream of a return to Dior. In an enigmatic message on Instagram, John Galliano urges patience, leaving his future projects a mystery.
This announcement marks a turning point for Maison Margiela and for the fashion industry, which is eagerly awaiting the next movements of this extraordinary artist.
