Sotheby’s Paris opens its café: when art comes to the table

How about lunch in front of a Monet or a vintage Birkin bag? At 83 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Sotheby’s Paris takes the luxury experience a step further with the inauguration of 83 Le Café, a hybrid space at the crossroads of gastronomy, art and design.

A new kind of Paris show

Located on the second floor of the auction house’s brand-new Paris flagship, 83 Le Café is more than just a gastronomic address. It is also a place for living, tasting and conversation, designed to prolong the magic of the exhibitions. We come here as much to savour a plate of food as to stroll through a living gallery, where the works – sometimes signed Monet, sometimes collectors’ items like a vintage Hermès bag – evolve with the sales and exhibitions.

An inventive menu of revisited classics and free-spirited creations

Behind the stoves, Gaëtan Thibert, a young chef with experience at the Ritz and Le Tout-Paris, creates a creative cuisine subtly rooted in the French repertoire. Beef ravioli confit, duck breast with citrus fruits, sea bream gravlax or a couture version of a club sandwich, each dish is in tune with the atmosphere of the place: refined, contemporary, without showboating. In the dining room,Emma Teulade ‘s desserts add a sweet touch to this artistic score, from clementine vacherin to reinvented Saint-Honoré.

Sotheby’s, between tableware and fine arts

The interior scenography, designed by Hubert Le Gall, combines blown glass, soft lighting and sculptural furniture, creating a hushed setting conducive to contemplation. Serving tea or cocktails, sometimes in a glass by Sarah Andelman, extends this immersive experience, where beauty is part of every gesture.
