The Loro Piana project that could change the future of cashmere

Away from the catwalks, Loro Piana acts quietly – but with global reach. In 2025, the LVMH Group’s Italian house is rolling out “Resilient Threads”, a large-scale pilot project launched in the Mongolian province of Sukhbaatar. This five-year program combines ecological commitment, community support and a long-term industrial vision. Its ambition? To protect a resource as precious as it is exposed: cashmere.

Loro Piana, a program with a dual impact: human and environmental

Conceived in partnership with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Sustainable Fibre Alliance and theOdyssey Conservation Trust, “Resilient Threads” sets up a unique system: a “One Health Hub mobile”, i.e. a mobile clinic providing veterinary care, vaccination campaigns and health awareness to livestock farmers in isolated areas.

A center dedicated to biodiversity will also be created to preserve the endangered steppes, the guarantors of a fragile ecosystem that is vital to the industry.

Sukhbaatar: a key region, a strategic challenge

Why Sukhbaatar? Because this province is both a major reservoir of raw cashmere and a region particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. By structuring the local industry, Loro Piana is securing its supply while giving local communities the means to face future challenges.

Luxury rethought as part of LVMH strategy

This program is part of LIFE 360, LVMH‘s global environmental strategy. Through its White Paper “For a New Luxury”, the group highlights the concrete actions taken to enhance traceability, preserve biodiversity and reduce carbon footprint.
