The Whitney Bag celebrates its 10th anniversary: the cult bag returns in a collector’s edition

Ten years after its creation, the Whitney Bag is back. More than an accessory, it’s a style statement celebrated the world over.

A birth between fashion and architecture

The Whitney Bag, launched in 2015 by Max Mara, wasn’t born of simple marketing brainstorming. It is the fruit of a rare collaboration with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Whitney Museum in New York. Striated, graphic, powerful: the bag takes up the building’s structural codes to become a symbol of design applied to fashion.

Initially produced in a limited series, this bag quickly established itself as an emblem of contemporary elegance, appreciated by women who combine aesthetics with functionality.

2025: a worldwide celebration for an icon

For its 10th anniversary, Max Mara is launching an exclusive anniversary edition of the Whitney Bag. Presented last April at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, the re-edition revisits the 2015 aluminum version. The metallic leather evokes the museum’s façade, while the red nappa leather lining introduces an unexpected note of sensuality.

Each one – only 125 pieces worldwide – is signed “Designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop”, definitively sealing the collector’s dimension of this piece.

A bag displayed like a work of art

From Tokyo to Paris, via Shanghai and Rome, Max Mara flagships are adorned with dedicated installations, playing with volumes, materials and illusions. The highlight? The Whitney Gala in New York, scheduled for May 20, 2025, where the bag will be celebrated as a work of art in its own right.

Already on display at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, the Whitney Bag stands out as a fragment of culture, between fashion, design and urban memory.

A new palette for a new decade

Thirteen new colors – powder pink, lichen green, ocean blue, intense gold – and six formats, including an original five-ribbed model, enrich this renaissance. In an age of interchangeable accessories, the Whitney Bag remains a statement piece.
