This Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition celebrates Le Male

Jean Paul Gaultier never celebrates like others. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of its cult perfume Le Male, the house is staging an immersive exhibition of provocation, sensuality and creation.

Le Male: three decades and still as transgressive as ever

Since 1995, Le Male has occupied a special place in men’s perfumery. Conceived by Francis Kurkdjian, this fragrance has turned codes upside down, as much for its oriental scent as for its marine bottle with its muscular torso. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this best-seller, Jean Paul Gaultier is installing an exclusive scenographic tour in Paris: “Et Gaultier créa l’Homme : Le Male – Past, Present, Future”.

The exhibition is divided into three sequences, like an olfactory pyramid.

Masculinity, sensuality and contemporary art: an assertive triptych

In the first part, visitors plunge into the world of masculinity revisited by Gaultier. Known for introducing the corset and the men’s skirt to the catwalk, Gaultier has always questioned gender norms. This section looks back at these visionary battles.

The second part gives substance to the perfume itself. Sensory installations, suggestive settings, diffuse eroticism… The Male is revealed as an iconic and intimate object of desire.

Finally, the third section offers a contemporary reading through artistic collaborations: visual artist Harry Nuriev, artists fromÉCAL, photographer Mahmoud Khaled, painter Alireza Shojaian, and performers Bashar Murad and Pepo Moreno present exclusive works.

Puig, storytelling and Generation Z

With this exhibition, the Puig Group, owner of the brand, confirms its strategy: to appeal to a young, connected public in search of powerful visual experiences. Following on from the Nina Ricci and Carolina Herrera pop-ups, this new Gaultier show is in line with the brand’s approach to accessible, cultural luxury.
