Kalendae: summer’s fairytale equestrian show at Chantilly
In Chantilly, the summer of 2025 promises to be flamboyant and legendary. From July 12 to August 17, the dome of the Grandes Écuries will host “Kalendae, la ronde des Heures”, an original equestrian journey inspired by a medieval masterpiece. A visual and sensory experience conceived as a living echo of the Très Riches Heures of the Duc de Berry.
A show echoing a medieval treasure
“Kalendae” was born on the occasion of the exceptional exhibition devoted to the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, one of the world’s most precious medieval manuscripts, rarely exhibited since the XIXᵉ century. To accompany this event, the Compagnie équestre du Château de Chantilly has imagined a totally new show, combining equestrian art, dance, music and medieval symbolism.
A poetic and immersive fresco
Under the dome, magnificently redecorated for the occasion, the equestrians perform alongside horses, ponies and donkeys, in a lively fresco inspired by medieval miniatures. Peasants, ladies, astrologers, reapers, unicorns and fantastical creatures rub shoulders in a ballet of tableaux come to life. The Middle Ages are reinvented: neither strictly historical, nor entirely fantasized, but highly sensitive and imaginary.
Artists from all horizons
Alongside the horsewomen, a singer, a contemporary dancer, aerial acrobats and acrobats enrich the visual narrative. Each scene is multi-sensory, punctuated by the seasons, constellations and forgotten rituals. It’s a suspended moment, an emotional journey carried by music, light and movement.
